Playgroup. Lots of small kids running around. Lovely to have the babies from last year toddling around, following you, joining in the song time.
New families arriving all the time. Good to have our playgroup recommended by their friends. Also time to think about the purchases for next term: we need toys for four year olds. Hollow kindergarten blocks sound the best idea. I hope they are suitable to have around small children under three.
Tomorrow will be different. We have a time of entertainment for elderly people, including readings/stories, (my part). Today I searched high and low for appropriate stories. Eventually decided on a theme of animals: what would animals say if they were to pray. And the following story:
On the first day, God created the dog and said: “Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.”The dog said: “That’s a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I’ll give you back the other ten?” So God agreed. On the second day, God created the monkey and said: “Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I’ll give you a twenty-year life span.”The monkey said: “Monkey tricks for twenty years? That’s a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?” And God agreed. On the third day, God created the cow and said:”You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer’s family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty Years.”The cow said: “That’s kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I’ll give back the other forty?” And God agreed again. On the fourth day, God created man and said: “Eat, sleep, play, and enjoy your life. For this, I’ll give you twenty years.”But man said: “Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?”“Okay,” said God, “You asked for it.”So that is why for our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone who passes.Life has now been explained to you. And it all began with a dog.
Today's affirmation:
Seed of Unfolding Beauty
Don’t waste energy trying to fix your life. Your life is not broken. Instead, befriend your life. Your life has a brilliant purpose and it is unfolding as it should. Tune in to that which is already happening in you and around you. Befriend your unfolding life. Say to yourself: My life is unfolding beautifully. I have nothing to fix. My life is my friend.

15 Sep 09
G'day.
I love Tuesdays. It is my first day off each week. I work 3 1/2 days a week (in theory). Usually I go to the pool for a workout. I am not a good swimmer, so I walk, run, weight lift, etc in the water. Afterwards I feel exhausted. Over time I have started to feel much stronger, so as a workout it has been good for me.
Lunch out with friends, some grocery shopping, perhaps a bit of gardening.
Gardening: now that is one of my loves. At least, picking and eating what I have grown is one of the loves of my life. It is now spring. This week I have been watching the blossoms on the different trees in my garden. For the first time in nine years, two of my plum trees have flowered at the same time. This means that cross-pollination should be happening, and there should be some fruit. Wonderful. As well, the nectarine and apricot trees have once again produced prolific blossom, so I am hopeful that there will once again be a very good crop on these trees. Usually we produce enough fruit to keep eating it right through to the next season. Much is frozen (and given away), but last year I started to experiment with fruit drying (tomatoes too).
The thing that worries me is climate change: last year it was so hot in February that many of the plants were blackened. It was far too hot for them. If the heat hits after the fruit harvest season it won't be quite so bad. I am already trying to work out how to cope if the veggies need to be covered. Everything needs to be planted so they can be moved into shade if necessary. Lots of containers needed!
Anyway, enough for now.
